Lenten Soup Suppers

January 24th, 2008 by Webwright

We will have our Soup Suppers on Wednesdays in Lent (not including Ash Wednesday) at 6:30 PM – February 13th, February 20th, February 27th, March 5th and March 12th. Our Soup Suppers are hosted by various groups in the parish and are simple suppers of soup and perhaps bread and a salad.

After each supper, there will be a program that will help us stay up-to-date on events and happenings in The Episcopal Church and The Anglican Communion. Since The Episcopal Church was constituted at the end  of the 18th century, it has been considered part of The Anglican Communion. Recent events such as the consecration of a homosexual bishop in New Hampshire, the expression of theological views of a female Presiding Bishop, innovative interpretations of the Bible and questions about Biblical authority have caused individuals, parishes and now an entire diocese to leave The Episcopal Church. Some Anglican bishops around the world have declared themselves “out of communion” with The Episcopal Church. We hope an examination of these issues will help us find answers to questions such as “Is it necessary to be part of The Anglican Communion?” or “What should we be doing to maintain our belief in Biblical teaching, the faith revealed by Christ to His Church?”. The presentations after the suppers will be brief and will allow time for questions and discussion.
