Feast of Saint Michael and All Angels

Posted by Webwright September 25, 2011 under Church News, Worship and Prayer

The actual day of this feast is September 29th, but we keep it on a Sunday so we can celebrate this great day as a parish family. Saint Michael and his angels, according to the account in The Revelation to John, fought against Satan and his army of angels. Saint Michael won the battle, threw the devil out of heaven, and showed us that the goodness, love and power of God are always stronger than any evil. Pray for Michael and all his angels that we, too, will remain strong to fight against sin, the world, the flesh and the devil and  finally be forever with the angels worshiping God in heaven.

The Pony Express Celebration Dinner will be held on Friday, September 30th. We will need plenty of helping hands to cook and assist with set-ups, decorations and clean-up. It is always a great time of fellowship. If you would like to help, please contact Cathy Elsea at cmelsea1@aol.com or 417-7010 or Denise Vreeland at denisev@jwinsurance.com or 605-1115.

Be Ready for the Pony Express to Make a Delivery to Your Home

Posted by Webwright September 12, 2011 under Church News

A Pony Express Rider is on the way and will deliver a package to you any day from September 25th through September 30th. Please be ready to receive the mail and pass the package along to a home near you. This way our Stewardship Campaign will be a great success!

Mary Richardson, John Royall and Liz Russell, our Stewardship Committee, are putting together an exciting way to pledge to our Church for 2012. Lifted right from the Old West, the pledge cards will be delivered to our houses, and we will have 24 hours to complete our pledge cards, put them in the mailbag and deliver the mailbag to the next house on the route. In the six days between September 25th and September 30th, your mailbag will have made the rounds and returned to the Church in preparation for our parish celebration on September 30th. You may be asked to be one of the fifty trail bosses we need to have a successful ride of the Pony Express. If you are asked, please saddle up your horse and say, “Yup”. If you would like to volunteer to be a trail boss, call Debbie in the Parish Office at 787-7590. The safe delivery of the pledge cards and the ministry of Saint Timothy’s in 2012 depend on you.

Feast of the Holy Cross

Posted by Webwright under Church News, Worship and Prayer

There are not many signs and symbols of Christianity more potent than the Cross. It is to be adored, honored and celebrated because it is on the Cross that Our Lord, Jesus Christ, won our salvation. When we reverence and give due honor to the Cross, we are ultimately giving honor to Jesus who gave Himself for us on the Cross and made the way clear for our salvation and eternal life. Today we celebrate the special feast dedicated to the Cross for these reasons. This feast is the time for us to rejoice and be glad for the wonderful work accomplished for us through the Holy Cross.

Parlor Renovation Update

Posted by Webwright September 4, 2011 under Church News

Our new and improved parlor is underway! So patience, prayer and high hopes are in order. In the end we should have a handsome room, thanks to the ladies of Saint Anne’s Chapter of the Episcopal Church Women and everyone who donated toward this project. Please excuse any inconveniences we may experience over the next few weeks and give thanks that we will have a Church of which we can be proud. We give a special ‘Thank You” to David Elsea and Steve and Darlene Scholtis who stepped in at the last minute and helped put protective paper down in the parlor so the work on the new ceiling would not be delayed. Thank you to them and everyone who has helped with this important project.

We are almost over the major parts of the refurbishing. The last stage will be the installation of new windows, plantation shutters and a new door. Please take a look at the progress so far!

The Feast of St. Mary the Virgin: The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Posted by Webwright August 14, 2011 under Church News, Worship and Prayer

The honor paid to Saint Mary, the Mother of Jesus Christ, goes back to the earliest days of the Church. Two Gospels tell of the manner of Christ’s birth, and the familiar Christmas story testifies to the Church’s conviction that He was born of a virgin. Mary was the person closest to Jesus in His most impressionable years, and the words of the Magnificat, as well as her humble acceptance of the divine will, bear more than an accidental resemblance to the Lord’s Prayer and the Beatitudes of the Sermon on the Mount.

Later devotion has claimed many things for Saint Mary which cannot be proved from Holy Scripture. What we can believe is that one who stood in so intimate a relationship with the incarnate Son of God on earth must have the place of highest honor in the eternal life of God. A paraphrase of an ancient Greek hymn expresses this belief in very familiar words: O higher than the cherubim, more glorious than the seraphim, lead the praises, alleluia. (Lesser Feasts and Fasts, p. 294)
