Volunteers Needed for Pretzel Sunday

Posted by Webwright March 18, 2012 under Church School

Our Pretzel Sunday is fast approaching, and we need lots of help! We need volunteers to help with the making and baking of the pretzels.  This is always fun for the children! We make enough to contribute to Coffee Hour and to send home with the children. Please contact Susan Patton if you are willing to help.

Pretzel dough recipe:

  • 1 tbsp dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 cups flour

Mix yeast in warm water. Add sugar and salt. Add flour and mix. Put dough on wax paper and knead until soft. Place in a plastic zip lock bag and leave in the kitchen.

A tradition for our children during Lent is collecting money in a Lenten envelope. This year the children will donate their money to Loaves and Fishes. This local non-profit organization runs an after-school program for at-risk children. If you are interested in learning more about this organization, please visit lafchildren.org. Envelopes are available for the children in the Parish Hall during Coffee Hour.

Christmas Pageant Sign-Up

Posted by Webwright November 28, 2011 under Church Events, Church News, Church School

Our Church School presents a Christmas Pageant every year at the Family Service at 5:30 PM on Christmas Eve. We are beginning to plan for the Pageant and need to know who will be here that evening to participate. This is a long-standing tradition for our Church School children, and we hope that everyone will be able to take part. Sign-ups have begun for the Pageant Cast; the sign-up is located on the wooden table as you enter the Parish Hall from the bell tower. If you have any questions, please contact Susan Patton at 919-274-2222 or susanpatton@nc.rr.com.

On Sunday, April 10th, the Church School children will be making their traditional pretzels for Lent. We need volunteers to prepare the pretzel dough. Please contact Susan Patton at susanpatton@nc.rr.com or 274-2222 for the easy recipe.

On Palm Sunday, April 17th, all children should join the Church School in the first four pews of the Church before the 11 AM service. We will be joining the congregation in the Palm Sunday procession.  Following the procession, the Church School will go to the Parish Hall for Chapel and then attend classes.

There will be no Church School on Easter Sunday, April 24th. Children are asked to join their parents in Church for the Easter Service. There will be an Easter Egg Hunt following the 11 AM service hosted by the Youth Group. If your child will be participating in the Easter Egg Hunt, please bring a dozen plastic Easter eggs by Palm Sunday. The eggs can be dropped off in the Parish Hall.

A tradition for our children during Lent is collecting money in a Lenten envelope. This year the children will donate their money to NetsforLife, a partnership for malaria prevention in Africa. This non-profit organization partners with corporations and faith-based organizations to implement malaria-prevention programs by providing insecticide treated nets. In Phase II they plan to deliver seven million nets to 17 African countries. The cost of a net is $12.00. For more information, please visit www.netsforlifeafrica.com. Envelopes are available for the children in the Parish Hall during Coffee Hour.
