Please mark your calendars for our Workshop on the Eucharist on January 29th and 30th. The workshop will be conducted in three sessions by Bill Ryon, a layman from the Washington, DC area and a member of St. Paul’s parish in Washington. The purpose of the workshop is to learn more about how Christ is truly present in the Eucharist and to gain more of an understanding about how our worship on Sunday, with the Eucharist at its center, relates to Christ’s presence in us and how it affects our actions. The three sessions will be held at 4 PM and 7 PM on Sunday and at 7 PM on Monday. Dinner will be provided between the sessions on Sunday.

Confirmation classes will begin on Sunday, January 22nd at 10 AM in the Parlor. It is assumed that in the course of one’s mature Christian life that the Christian will make an adult profession of faith and receive the laying-on-of-hands for the grace of spiritual strength. For us, that is the Sacrament of Confirmation. If you need to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, or one of your children needs to receive it, please attend these classes. You may also want to attend the classes just to get a good review of the basics of the Christian Faith or to learn more about the workings and history of The Episcopal Church.

Through the month of May, we are fortunate to have Father Martin presenting a four-session series on The Paschal Mystery. The very heart of the Christian Faith is the Dying and Rising of the Lord Jesus and all that flows from it, which we know as the Paschal Mystery, and in which we live and serve inspired and imbued with the Holy Spirit, nourished by the Eucharistic Mystery of the Body and Blood of the Living Lord, and encompassed and aided by the Blessed Mother and all the Saints. All sessions will be held on Sunday and begin at 10 AM in the Parlor.
- May 1st: The Resurrection of the Lord
- May 8th: The Ascension of the Lord
- May 22nd: The Pentecost Event

Father James would like to meet with all adults and young people who want to attend the Confirmation Classes in the Parlor at 10 AM on Sunday, February 20th. The parents of young people wanting to be confirmed should attend this first class. At that time everyone will receive a syllabus, and we will begin the first class. The Confirmation will be during the Bishop’s Annual Visitation, Sunday, April 10th at 11 AM.
It is expected in The Episcopal Church that everyone who is baptized will be confirmed. Our Prayer Book rubrics say, In the course of their Christian development, those baptized at an early age are expected, when they are ready and have been duly prepared, to make a mature public affirmation of their faith and commitment to the responsibilities of their Baptism and to receive the laying on of hands by the bishop. Those baptized as adults, unless baptized with laying on of hands by a bishop, are also expected to make a public affirmation of their faith and commitment to the responsibilities of their Baptism in the presence of a bishop and to receive the laying on of hands (BCP, p. 412). We also use the Confirmation Classes to prepare people converting to The Episcopal Church from other branches of the Faith, and people also use the classes to just review and gain more knowledge about The Episcopal Church.
The topics of the remaining classes are:
- February 27: The Bible and Anglicans
- March 6: The Book of Common Prayer
- March 13: The Sacraments – Effectual Signs of Grace
- March 20: The Eucharist, The Mass, The Holy Communion, The Lord’s Supper
- March 27: Confession
- April 3: The Episcopal Church in the U.S.A.
- April 10: Bishop’s Visitation and Confirmation
- April 17: The Anglican Communion
- April 24: No Class (Easter Day)
- May 1: Christian Stewardship: A Rule of Life

Father Martin will be teaching a new course beginning on Sunday, October 3rd at 10 AM in the Parlor. The course is about welcoming new members to our church and incorporating them into the life of this parish. Evangelization is something that we think “just happens”. It does not. We are called by god to bring others to the knowledge and love of Jesus, so we are to have an active hand in spreading the Gospel. The course will ask us two basic questions: Do we have a faith worth sharing? and Do we have a church worth joining? Each of the four Sundays (October 3rd, 10th, 24th and 31st) will address these questions:
- What is our special and unique character as a Christian community? How do we share it?
- What is our mission and ministry?
- How are people incorporated, welcomed and inspired?
- What is a genuinely happy community? How do we express Christian joy and vitality?
Please join us in the Parlor beginning October 3rd.

Father Martin will begin a two-part series on Sunday, June 6th and Sunday, June 20th. The course will address the necessity of being part of a worldwide communion. In other words, “What is the Universal Church?” The second part of the curse will describe The Anglican Communion. Are we Anglicans, or are we Episcopalians, or are we both? Please come and find out!

Each Wednesday in Lent (February 24th, March 3rd, March 10th, March 17th, and March 24th) we will gather in the Parish Hall at 6:30 PM to enjoy a light dinner of soup provided by various groups in the parish. Immediately following the Soup Supper will be a Lenten program entitled “Jesus Christ: Lord, Savior, Redeemer”. Father Martin and Father James will present a series of talks followed by discussion on these questions: Who is Jesus Christ? What do we tell others about Him? What does Jesus mean to you?
The Christian faith is all about Jesus, incarnate Son of the Living God and of the Virgin Mary. To know Him, love Him and serve Him is Christian discipleship. Using the great I AM sayings in the Gospel according to St. John, we will rediscover who He is: I AM the Light of the world; I AM the Bread of Life; I AM the Good Shepherd; I AM the Way, the Truth and the Life; I AM the Resurrection and the Life. Through these talks, may we be better able to express the faith that is in us, in word and in action, and continue to grow in the fullness of the stature of Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit.
The schedule for the groups supplying the soup is:
- February 24th: St. Anne’s Chapter
- March 3rd: Vestry
- March 10th: Men’s Fellowship
- March 17th: Altar Guild
- March 24th: Bible Study
