Each Wednesday in Lent (February 24th, March 3rd, March 10th, March 17th, and March 24th) we will gather in the Parish Hall at 6:30 PM to enjoy a light dinner of soup provided by various groups in the parish. Immediately following the Soup Supper will be a Lenten program entitled “Jesus Christ: Lord, Savior, Redeemer”. Father Martin and Father James will present a series of talks followed by discussion on these questions: Who is Jesus Christ? What do we tell others about Him? What does Jesus mean to you?

The Christian faith is all about Jesus, incarnate Son of the Living God and of the Virgin Mary. To know Him, love Him and serve Him is Christian discipleship. Using the great I AM sayings in the Gospel according to St. John, we will rediscover who He is: I AM the Light of the world; I AM the Bread of Life; I AM the Good Shepherd; I AM the Way, the Truth and the Life; I AM the Resurrection and the Life. Through these talks, may we be better able to express the faith that is in us, in word and in action, and continue to grow in the fullness of the stature of Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit.

The schedule for the groups supplying the soup is:

February 24th: St. Anne’s Chapter

March 3rd: Vestry

March 10th: Men’s Fellowship

March 17th: Altar Guild

March 24th: Bible Study

On Sunday, January 24th Father James will hold a meeting of everyone who wants to be confirmed during the Bishop’s Annual Visitation. It is expected in The Episcopal Church that everyone who is baptized will be confirmed. Our Prayer Book rubrics say, In the course of their Christian development, those baptized at an early age are expected, when they are ready and have been duly prepared, to make a mature public affirmation of their faith and commitment to the responsibilities of their Baptism and to receive the laying on hands by the bishop. Those baptized as adults, unless baptized with laying on of hands by a bishop, are also expected to make a public affirmation of their faith and commitment to the responsibilities of their Baptism in the presence of a bishop and to receive the laying on of hands. (BCP, p. 412) We also use the Confirmation Classes to prepare people converting to The Episcopal Church from other branches of the Faith. Father James would like to meet with all adults and young people who want to attend the Confirmation Classes in the Parlor at 10 AM on Sunday, January 24th. The parents of the young people wanting to be confirmed should attend this meeting. At that time, everyone will receive a syllabus, and we will determine the best day and time to hold the weekly classes.

The school is opening the class to any parishioner who would like to attend. The class is limited to 15 people. If you would like to be trained in the use of CPR and AED, simply give your name to Father James. We will be purchasing an AED for the Church and the Parish Hall some time next year, and it would be good to have more parishioners trained in its used before it is installed.

Having considered the Book of Common Prayer, its history and content, then the Christian Year, the liturgical calendars, temporale and sanctorale, we now consider the Eucharist, the Church’s supreme act of worship and sacrament. In the following sessions, we will focus first on the Liturgy of the Word of God, and then the Liturgy of the Eucharist, the Holy Sacrifice and the Real Presence. The concluding session is on Eucharistic living, our response in discipleship and mission. Throughout, we will pay attention to some details, such as vesture, gesture and posture, and the rich symbols employed by the Church.

Fourth Session: The Word of God – Meeting God in the Word

Fifth Session: The Sacrifice of the Mass – Encountering Jesus

Sixth Session: Eucharistic Living – Christian Discipleship

We encourage every parishioner to attend Father Martin’s Christian Formation Classes on Sunday morning at 10 AM in the Parlor. If you are going to be confirmed in the Spring (Confirmation is May 3rd), if you are interested in learning more about the Faith, if you would like to learn more about how worship (especially eucharistically centered worship) is the center of your life, then you will want to be in this series of six classes.
