Feast of Saints Peter and Paul

June 29th, 2008 by Webwright

June 29th is the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul. These two apostles have been honored together since the early days of the Church. In about 96 A.D., Clement of Rome, writing to the Church in Corinth, says of them: Let us bring before our eyes the good apostles - Peter, who because of unrighteous jealousy endured not one or two but numerous trials, and so bore a martyr’s witness and went to the glorious place that he deserved. Because of jealousy and strife, Paul pointed the way to the reward of endurance; seven times he was imprisoned, he was exiled, he was stoned, he was a preacher in both east and west, and won renown for his faith, teaching uprightness to the whole world, and reaching the farthest limit of the west, and bearing a martyr’s witness before the rulers, he passed out of the world and was taken up into the holy place, having proved a very great example of endurance. Holy Peter and Holy Paul, pray for us.

Special Request from North Raleigh Ministries

June 22nd, 2008 by Webwright

Between June 7th and June 9th, a water pipe broke in one of the suites of the building housing North Raleigh Ministries. There was at least one inch of water in most of the space, soaking the walls and carpeted areas. According to the tenant agreement, North Raleigh Ministries is responsible for the clean-up, and a restoration company has been contacted to aid in the recovery. The insurance held by North Raleigh Ministries will cover part of the recovery (e.g. paint for for the walls and fans to help dry the area). The food pantry was closed for a few days but has reopened and is back on a normal schedule. For the next two to three weeks, extra volunteers are needed to help reorganize the shop and the pantry. The volunteer efforts are being organized by Diane Williams at 782-4422 or igmommy@nc.rr.com. If you would like to lend a hand so North Raleigh Ministries can have a full and complete recovery, please contact Diane.

A Word From Our Choir Director

June 9th, 2008 by Webwright

June 1st was the final Sunday of the Choir’s regular season. We would like to thank the members of the Choir for their faithful and exemplary service in providing beautiful and meaningful music for our liturgies. We would also like to thank our organ Scholar, Mari Pedroza, who is graduating from high school and leaving us for Appalachian State University. Having Mari as our Organ Scholar this year has been a delightful experience.

For our musical parishioners, there are two opportunities to offer your gifts during the summer months. The Summer Choir will begin rehearsals on Sunday, June 15th, at 10 AM in the loft. This is an ideal time to “try out” singing in the choir for anyone eleven and older. This is also the time when we encourage instrumentalists who would like to play in church (on the hymns only, or to also offer an accompanied solo piece) to arrange for a Sunday on which to do so. Please contact Dr. Warren if you would like to volunteer for the Summer Choir or to play your instrument during worship. We will be looking for a new organ Scholar and additional soloists for the choir to start in September, so if you happen to know any young organist (high school age or older) or trained singer (college age and older) who might be interested in serving at St. Timothy’s, please have them contact Dr. Warren at 919-528-8950 or give her his/her name and contact information.
