Lenten Soup Suppers and Lenten Program

Posted by Webwright February 27, 2009 under Church Events, Church News

Our Soup Suppers are hosted by various groups in the parish. Each Wednesday (March 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th, and April 1st) at 6:30 PM, we will have a simple supper of soup and perhaps bread and a salad. Following the suppers, there will be a series of talks entitled The Anglican Dilemma – A Church with Two Religions. The Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion are fractured. We will learn how they are divided by theology, the results of the division, what the Anglican Communion might look like in years ahead, how we move forward, and how our church and other churches are affected. These presentations will be led by Father Martin and Father James and will include a brief time for questions and discussion. Please join us as we find a way to remain faithful and practice our religion as Episcopalians.

Lenten Offering Folders

Posted by Webwright under Church News

This folder provides an opportunity for each of us to make a sacrifice each day in Lent. Instead of giving a single Lenten offering at the end of Lent, we can offer a coin or two at the end of each day through Lent and Holy Week in addition to observing our Lenten disciplines which remind us of Our Lord’s sacrifice on the Cross for our salvation. Upon the conclusion of Holy Week, we can bring our completed folders back to the Church and offer it in thanksgiving for the Glorious Resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Day.

The Scouts will welcome us to Church, help the ushers distribute the bulletins, take up the collection at the offertory and join us for coffee hour.

The Presentation of Our Lord in the Temple

This feast is also called The Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It commemorates for us the time in the life of Jesus when Joseph and Mary, in accordance with Jewish law, “present” Jesus in the Temple and offer the appropriate thank-offering for their first-born male child. When Jesus is “presented” and placed in the arms of Simeon, He is recognized as the Saviour.
