On or around St. Francis Day, it has become a custom to bless the animals. St. Francis loved the natural world God created and loved all of the creatures in it. He saw nature as reflecting the beauty of its Creator and could see the loving will and hand of God in all of nature. We will bless some of God’s creatures next Sunday, October 3rd at 4 PM in front of the Church. If you have pets of any size or shape, please bring them to the front doors of the Church, and we will pray over them and bless them. Our pets and all creatures are dear to us, and we can give thanks that God has let us enjoy them and care for them. There is ample parking at the Landmark Office Building adjacent to the Church.

Father Martin will be teaching a new course beginning on Sunday, October 3rd at 10 AM in the Parlor. The course is about welcoming new members to our church and incorporating them into the life of this parish. Evangelization is something that we think “just happens”. It does not. We are called by god to bring others to the knowledge and love of Jesus, so we are to have an active hand in spreading the Gospel. The course will ask us two basic questions: Do we have a faith worth sharing? and Do we have a church worth joining? Each of the four Sundays (October 3rd, 10th, 24th and 31st) will address these questions:
- What is our special and unique character as a Christian community? How do we share it?
- What is our mission and ministry?
- How are people incorporated, welcomed and inspired?
- What is a genuinely happy community? How do we express Christian joy and vitality?
Please join us in the Parlor beginning October 3rd.

The Stewardship Campaign Kickoff Committee is going to have a photo contest as part of our fun-filled Campaign Kickoff on Sunday, September 19th. We need your help! We’d love to have parishioners send in old photos of themselves from sports teams or other sports-related activities like marching band and cheerleading. We’ll have a photo contest to see who can correctly guess the person in the picture. If you have an electronic copy of your picture, please send it via e-mail to bourey_marlee@yahoo.com. Be sure to include your name! If you have a great picture of a friend who attends St. Timothy’s, feel free to send it in, as well! If you do not have a digital copy, please drop off your original or a photo copy of your picture with Father James. If you send in an original or you need your copy back, please let us know and we’ll make sure it’s returned to you! We appreciate your help and look forward to seeing all of you at the Kickoff next Sunday, September 19th!

When you arrive at the Kickoff on Sunday please check in at the registration table located in the Parish Hall. We encourage you to name your team –if you are an individual, couple or family, consider a fun name and be prepared to let us know your team’s name upon check in. Be creative and dress to have fun! Dress in comfortable attire or in your team’s colors, and bring your cheerleading spirit for St. Timothy’s. I am planning to offer several of the Men’s Fellowship Committee my old cheerleading outfits to wear, but we shall see who takes the challenge. For those who are wondering, yes, these outfits are from the 80’s. Please join us. If you have any questions, please call me at 919-455-7328.

Please be ready for the Fall Kickoff of our Stewardship Campaign on Sunday, September 19th from 4 to 7 PM. We will not have Coffee Hour that day. We should all return home after the 11 AM Service and come back to the Church with our pledge cards in hand and in our football jerseys, cheerleader outfits or any relaxing clothes we can find. Bring your whole family and enjoy great tailgating food from the tailgate of a vintage fire truck, tailgating games for all ages like “Corn Hole”, “Ladder Ball” and “Football Toss”, a photo contest and the opportunity to visit with members from all of the parish organizations. Please come and bring your whole family at 4 PM and you’ll be on time for the kickoff. To date, we have a good response for attendance, but you do not want to miss out on the fun and the opportunity to show support for St. Timothy’s. We need you to be there!

How about dinner and a movie? You are welcome to join the women of the ECW to enjoy dinner out and a movie on Saturday, October 9th at 7 PM. Cathy Elsea will host this event at her home. The movie for the evening will be “Calendar Girls”. This 2003 comedy, based on a true story, shows the age-old stuffiness of the Women’s Institute of Yorkshire, England as a few of their group of freer spirits produce a different and successful fundraiser for an outreach concern. “They changed the world one month at a time.”

Early in the 4th Century, Saint Helena directed the excavation and building of a basilica in honor of the Holy Cross and as a shrine of her son, the Emperor Constantine. The complex of buildings was dedicated on September 14 of the year 355, Holy Cross Day. The buildings, just outside Jerusalem, were build on what was believed to be the site of Mount Calvary where Our Lord was crucified on the Cross. We give glory and honor to the Holy Cross because it is on that Cross that He brought salvation to the world.
