Graduation Recognition

Posted by Webwright under Church News

Is someone you know graduating this spring? Each spring we like to recognize and pray for all those graduating from high school or college or receiving an advance degree. Please give Father James, Father Martin or Father Presler the person’s name, the institution from where the person is graduating, and, for high school graduates, the college or university they will be attending. It is important to recognize these accomplishments and to give God thanks for such blessings. We will have all of the graduates listed in the bulletin on Pentecost Sunday, June 12th.

Fundraiser For Saint Michael’s Conference

Posted by Webwright May 10, 2011 under Church Events, Church News

Each year we send a number of our high school and college-aged students to Saint Michael’s Conference in Hartford, Connecticut. The conferees pay for their registration fees, and the parish tries to cover the cost of transportation to and from the Conference. To help pay for the cost of transportation, the young people attending the Conference are having a Live Auction and a Silent Auction after the 11 AM Service on Sunday, June 5th. The Silent Auction will offer items that have been donated by the young people from crafts they have made or by local businesses and restaurants. The Live Auction will be each one of the conferees! They are willing to be auctioned off to do two or three hours of yard work or housework, wash cars or windows (no climbing ladders), walk the dog(s), babysit or help with “media instruction” (how to operate digital cameras, media players or computers). David Elsea has graciously accepted the job of auctioneer for the Live Auction. Please make sure you attend the cookout following the 11 AM Service on June 5th so you can take advantage of the Silent and Live Auctions.

From the Choirmaster: Many Thanks to Our Choir and Musicians

Posted by Webwright under Choir News, Church News

So many people have complimented or thanked me for our wonderful music from Passion Sunday through the glorious Easter Day Eucharist, and I would like to send those compliments and thanks to our faithful volunteer choir members and section leaders. Please join me in thanking them: Annette Bandy, Bob Barnhardt, Chris Crew, Cathy Elsea, Vivian Finkelstein, Phillip Hopkins, Sarah Ittoop, Patricia Michael and Angela Wainaina.

Our additional musicians create a beautiful setting for our congregational and choral singing. Our own Peter Bourey plays the trumpet whenever needed (thank you, Peter!), while most of the string and brass players have been playing with us for several years. At St. Timothy’s, we have a tradition of encouraging young musicians, and our special musicians include three young brass players from NC State, along with their teacher, tubist Jack Fuller, and violinist Shelby Austin who has played for us since she was a sophomore in high school. Our tenor and bass vocal soloists have been singing Jesus, the Evangelist, and solos in our orchestral masses for several years and are young singers from the college program of the NC School for the Arts.
