Samuel and Chizoba Offor have their quadruplets home with the rest of their family. The children are doing fine, and they are very grateful for our prayers and support. They appreciate all the gifts of diapers, formula and other donations. If you would like to follow them and give support in any way, just go to carecalendar.org and use the code 78752.
The honor paid to Saint Mary, the Mother of Jesus Christ, goes back to the earliest days of the Church. Two Gospels tell of the manner of Christ’s birth, and the familiar Christmas story testifies to the Church’s conviction that He was born of a virgin. Mary was the person closest to Jesus in His most impressionable years, and the words of the Magnificat, as well as her humble acceptance of the divine will, bear more than an accidental resemblance to the Lord’s Prayer and the Beatitudes of the Sermon on the Mount.
Later devotion has claimed many things for Saint Mary which cannot be proved from Holy Scripture. What we can believe is that one who stood in so intimate a relationship with the incarnate Son of God on earth must have the place of highest honor in the eternal life of God. A paraphrase of an ancient Greek hymn expresses this belief in very familiar words: O higher than the cherubim, more glorious than the seraphim, lead the praises, alleluia. (Lesser Feasts and Fasts, p. 294)
We are in need of volunteers to teach Church School next year. We have teams of teachers for every grade level, so you do not have to commit to every Sunday, and a clear curriculum is provided to hep guide you through the lessons. Please contact Susan Patton at 274-3333 or susanpatton@nc.rr.com if you would like to volunteer.
Father James and Betsy James are in West Hartford, CT along with 15 of our high school and college-aged parishioners along with 81 other young people from around the country. The parishioners attending the conference are Emma Elsea, Meredith Elsea, Olivia James, Sam James, Amy Lewis, Meghan Lord, Taylor Lord, Anna Martin, Maggie McDaniel, Brandyn Nicholas, Ryan Searcy, Katherine Sholtis, Sara Smothers and Vaughn Vreeland. Pray for safe travel to and from the conference for all of them and that this will be a time of learning, of drawing closer to Our Lord, and of renewal in the Christian Faith. Holy Michael, pray for us.
The first day for Church School Registration is Sunday, August 21. Parents may register beginning on that day after both services. Registration tables will be in the narthex after the 9 AM service and in the Parish Hall after the 11 AM service. Registration will continue on successive Sundays through Sunday, September 11 when Church School begins. Registration forms will be available in the Sunday bulletins and in the August issue of St. Timothy’s Tidings. It is helpful for parents to complete a registration form each year.
