Pretzel Sunday

IMG_5734 (640x480)

One of the children’s favorite days of the year, Pretzel Sunday!  During Lent, the Church School will bake pretzels as a treat to share with the Parish.  We can use them as a reminder to pray and be thankful for the ‘little rewards’ or blessings we receive.  Please have the children dress appropriately as we will be working with flour and dough.  If you would like to donate a batch or two of the pretzel dough here is the recipe:

Pretzel Dough Recipe:

1Tbsp. dry yeast

¾ c. warm water

1 tbsp. sugar

½ tsp. salt

2 c. flour

Combine the sugar, salt, and yeast in warm water in a large mixing bowl.  Allow the mixture to rest for 5 minutes. Add 1 ½ cups flour to the foamy mixture and mix into a rough dough. Using the last ½ cup of flour, flour your hands and working surface and knead the dough until smooth and soft.  Lightly flour the dough and place in a plastic zip lock bag and leave in the Parish Hall kitchen for the  children!
